Dear Lovers of Chemosynthesis-Related Science,
We hope you and your families are well and healthy.
After thinking and discussing all the possibilities and related pros and cons, we agreed to postpone CBE7 2020/2021 in Brazil to 2023 in place of CBE8, in direct consultation with the Deep-Sea Biology Society, Dr. Ana Colaço and Dr. Ashley Rowden (as they submitted to host CBE7), as well as our Scientific Committee and invited plenary speakers.
This was a very tough decision and was constantly delayed due to the advances of the covid-19 pandemic. The decision was made because of all the uncertainties of the pandemic, especially in Brazil, and the consequent severe health-economic crisis. In addition, we decided to avoid overlapping meetings next year, when it is likely that so many problems remain (e.g. travel issues, s elected global border closures, transportation restrictions and costs, funding and conflicts with other long-planned meetings).
We have already spent a considerable amount of time and energy organizing the event and we are sure that this work will not be wasted, as we will use what we have learned to start planning the event for 2023. Of course, we count on you, your support and participation!
Finally, we apologize to anyone who has already made plans to visit us in Brazil. It is a pity, but we really believe it is the best we can do in these very challenging and uncertain times, to promote a productive and successful face-to-face symposium in 2023.
For participants who already submitted abstracts: We will restart the abstracts submission process again for CBE7 2023. So please, consider submitting your work to DSBS or related scientific events, or hold your abstracts, refine and resubmit them after the rescheduled CBE7 date is announced and submission pages reopen.
For participants who already registered: Your registration fees can be carried forward for CBE7 2023, or fully reimbursed. Please contact cbe7brazil@gmail.com for more information.
We will share more information moving forward as soon as it is available. Thank you so much in advance for your comprehension.
ATÉ BREVE!

CBE is the premier meeting of researchers, specialists, explorers, managers, policy makers and students to exchange ideas and share knowledge about advances in chemosynthesis-based ecosystems. We feel happy and honored to invite you for the 7th International Symposium on Chemosynthesis-Based Ecosystems (CBE7), which will be held in Guarujá (north coast of São Paulo state), Brazil between 23-28 August 2020 . For the first time, the symposium will take place in South America.
We are looking forward to offering you and spending with you an inspiring meeting with productive discussions, highlighting the new discoveries of CBEs, under the scope of the UN Ocean Decade.
See you soon in Brazil!
